Angola achieved “virtually all the objectives” set for its participation in Mining Indaba 2026, held in Cape Town, according to Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Diamantino Azevedo. He highlighted progress in negotiations for copper, gold, and critical minerals, as well as stronger international cooperation.
Key meetings with mining giants Barrick and BHP advanced potential gold and copper projects, while bilateral talks were held with the United States, Australia, Canada, and France to promote investment and technical partnerships. The delegation also focused on attracting investors and supporting licensed national companies facing project implementation challenges.
Angola presented tangible sector progress, including the start of production at the Mavoio copper project and the upcoming Quilengues niobium project. The country’s mining industry has become more diversified, expanding beyond diamonds to include gold, manganese, and future phosphate production.
The minister also emphasized investments in railways, energy, roads, and ports, reinforcing Angola’s competitiveness and appeal to investors. Mining Indaba 2026 gathered over 10,500 delegates under the theme “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnerships.”
