The development of logistics infrastructure in Luvo, on the border between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), represents a strategic opportunity to boost formal trade, attract investment in logistics and support services, and strengthen regional economic integration.
The statement was made by Eugénio Fernandes, Director of the National Directorate for the Economy of Concessions, during his intervention at the 2nd Transport and Logistics Forum organised by Expansão, dedicated to the theme “Logistics and Development Corridors.”
According to the official, Luvo plays a strategic role as one of the main land connection points between Angola and the DRC, functioning as a key corridor for the movement of goods and the expansion of trade flows in the region.
In this context, he argued that the creation of a modern cross-border post could significantly improve the efficiency of logistics flows by reducing crossing times, simplifying customs procedures and strengthening the security of commercial operations.
“The implementation of a modern cross-border post tends to significantly enhance the efficiency of logistics flows, reducing crossing times, improving customs procedures and increasing the security of commercial operations,” he said.
Fernandes also highlighted that Luvo’s location gives it strong potential to establish itself as a regional distribution platform and support hub for international road transport, benefiting from its proximity to important urban and commercial centres.
He further emphasised the importance of road and rail links to the country’s interior. The direct connection to Luanda, he explained, facilitates access to Angola’s main economic and consumer hub, while the link to Malanje strengthens the transport of agricultural and industrial production, promoting greater integration of national logistics chains.
In his intervention, he argued that the interconnection of the three railway lines — Luanda, Benguela and Moçâmedes — combined with the development of logistics platforms in border areas, could transform Angola into a key corridor for the movement of goods between the interior of Southern Africa and the Atlantic ports, increasing the country’s competitiveness as a regional transport and logistics hub.
