Angola’s Empresa Portuária do Soyo (EPS) used its presence at the 41st Luanda International Trade Fair (FILDA) to showcase sustained operational growth, rising economic impact and two landmark concession agreements that will reshape the port’s capacity over the next two decades.
Statistical data released by EPS point to significant increases in both cargo throughput and passenger movements in recent years. The growth trajectory is set to accelerate following the recent signing of a 20-year terminal concession contract with SOGESTER, covering the port’s passenger and cargo terminals.
For EPS Chairman Fernando Dias, the concession arrangement reflects best practice among modern port operators worldwide, whereby the private sector takes on the operational component while the state retains responsibility for regulation and oversight.
With the SOGESTER deal in place, EPS expects operational capacity to be materially strengthened and demand for port services to rise — making Soyo a compelling investment opportunity for visitors at FILDA who are focused on the future of northern Angola’s logistics hub.
“Between 2008 and 2025 we have recorded continuous growth in port traffic, establishing ourselves as a key infrastructure node for the movement of goods and river mobility in the region, and as a vital support point for Cabinda province given its geographical discontinuity,” Dias said.
The chairman cited concrete 2025 figures to illustrate the port’s scale: cabotage cargo handled reached 26,897 units, while passenger traffic for the same period stood at 171,583.
Beyond the SOGESTER agreement, EPS also highlighted a separate concession signed with Kwanda Base, which will further expand the port’s capacity in the energy services segment.
“Kwanda Base will operate, also for a 20-year period, four new quays: the Main Quay, the Azule Energy Quay, the South LNG Quay and the Texaco Quay. This will undoubtedly reinforce the logistical and operational capacity of the Port of Soyo,” Dias said.
With these indicators and agreements in place, EPS says it remains committed to modernising port infrastructure, strengthening the national economy and delivering increasingly efficient services to its clients and partners.
