Lobito Port has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, energy transition and digital transformation at the sixth annual roundtable of the Associação dos Portos de Angola (APANG), held in Porto Amboim, Cuanza Sul province, bringing together national and international experts to debate the future of Angola's maritime and port sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Celso Rosas, chairman of the board of Lobito Port, said sustainability and decarbonisation are central pillars of the port's modernisation strategy, in line with international standards on operational efficiency and environmental protection.
Rosas said the port is developing projects to install solar panels across its terminals and railway stations as part of efforts to cut carbon emissions and reduce operating costs. He added that environmental mitigation plans and reforestation programmes along the banks of the Lobito Corridor are also being drawn up to strengthen operational safety and preserve biodiversity.
On human capital development, Rosas said Lobito Port is continuing to invest in training Angolan professionals, including locomotive drivers, technicians and stevedores, in partnership with private operators. The initiative, he explained, is designed to boost youth employability in the provinces served by the Lobito Corridor and raise the overall quality of services provided.
The port's contribution to the forum extended to a dedicated panel on 'The Role of Digitalisation in Optimising Port Operations', in which director Emanuel Domingos joined a group of specialists examining the impact of new technologies on port operational efficiency.
The Lobito Port delegation at the sixth APANG roundtable also includes executive administrator Joaquim Cristiano and directors Lima, Tavares, Emanuel and Mateus de Carvalho.
The event, which opened on Thursday and concludes today, focuses on environmental sustainability, digitalisation and the modernisation of Angolan ports at a time when the sector is seeking to strengthen the competitiveness of the country's logistics infrastructure and external trade.
