Heavy vehicles will henceforth be required to pay for weighing on national roads. The measure is part of the program of the Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, which clarifies that it aims to ensure that heavy vehicles circulate within the legal maximum weight limits, preventing overloaded vehicles — one of the main contributors to the premature degradation of road pavements.
Without specifying a start date, the Ministry adds that this measure will help address the lack of regular and ongoing maintenance of the national road network. According to the Ministry, weigh stations will be installed along the main road corridors with high heavy vehicle traffic, near border posts and cargo handling areas such as ports, industries, and logistics infrastructures. In addition to fixed weigh stations, mobile weigh stations will also be used to monitor heavy vehicle weight at various road points.
It is worth noting that the tolling program was approved by the government and includes the installation of toll stations at border areas, namely Santa Clara (Xangongo), Luvo, Yema, Massabi, Luau, and Nóqui.
Recently, the construction of a toll station in Zenza do Itombe, in the province of Cuanza Norte, was approved.
