The Quiminha Dam will begin supplying electricity starting in the first quarter of 2027, following the completion of the ongoing construction work.
This assurance was given by Cristina Hijon, the Quiminha Dam rehabilitation manager and representative of the Spanish construction company Elecnor, during a visit by the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Isaac dos Anjos, to the ongoing infrastructure construction site.
Cristina Hijon said that after the work is completed, in the initial phase, the dam will supply electricity to 80 to 120 families, since the current work on the dam was intended to distribute water for the irrigation of agricultural fields and human consumption.
She noted that the dam will have a capacity to generate 30 kW and is also intended to benefit agricultural areas.
According to the manager, the ongoing work includes the rehabilitation of all hydro-mechanical components for controlling the water level in the dam.
The rehabilitation of the hydro-mechanical components is 80 percent complete, while all water and energy distribution components are 70 percent complete.
For the provincial governor of Icolo e Bengo, Auzílio Jacob, the project will reduce the negative impact of flooding caused by rains in the areas adjacent to the dam.
The Quiminha Dam is located in the municipality of Cabiri. Construction began in 2024, with a budget of 21 million euros, and it is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the province of Icolo e Bengo.
