Niassa Will Have a Cassava Processing Plant

A factory for cassava processing is projected for Niassa in of Nipepe district. The construction of this factory starts this year and should end in mid 2022, according to Nandinho Manuel, local director of the economic activities sector.

Manuel did not advance the amounts involved, but specified that HD Mining Development, a company of Chinese capital that explores graphite in this district, should be the investor of this project.

There is still no information about the working capacity of the factory unit, but, besides manioc, several food sub-products will be produced, with a guaranteed market.

Nandinho Manuel pointed out that the agrarian extension technicians of his district are, at this moment, engaged in the mobilization and sensitization of producers to increase their production areas for cassava cultivation, aiming at the significant increase of the harvest volumes of this tuberous root.

The district director of Economic Activities advanced that the producers of his district prepared for the present agricultural season an area estimated in 3.691 hectares, from where it is expected to harvest about 50 thousand tons of cassava, which is the first preference of the diet of most families of Nipepe not only.

He showed optimism about the response intended to be given to the proponents of the project for the installation of the cassava processing plant, justifying that the
fact results from the observation of the increase in production volume of this tuberous root in the district in recent years.
