The national electrification rate stands at 46%, and the government aims to reach the 50% mark by 2027, according to Isequiel Manuel, Director of Strategic Planning and Management Control at ENDE. He made the statement today during the 3rd Energy and Environment Forum, where he addressed the topic “Grid Losses and Their Impact on Tariffs”, currently taking place in Luanda.
According to Isequiel Manuel, the country currently has 2.6 million connections to the public electricity grid, and projections point to around 3.6 million connections by 2027.
To meet these targets, greater investment is expected in areas with higher population density, as about 72% of the population lives in just seven provinces, said the ENDE official. “If investments are focused on these provinces, we can reach or even surpass the 50% target.”
The 3rd Expansão Energy and Environment Forum is currently being held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Luanda and is focused on the theme “The Challenges of Energy Distribution Across the National Territory.”
