Nampula Needs 140 Million More for Emergency Works

The National Road Administration (ANE) in Nampula needs more than 140 million meticais to rebuild roads in the event of cuts or impassability during the current rainy season.

Florentino de Sousa, of the National Road Administration, when assessing the state of the rains, said that the figure would be used for emergency interventions.

Despite the low level of funding, around 97 % of the province’s road network is passable. It is possible to move safely to all district offices, administrative posts and localities.

However, he pointed out that the 4013-kilometre network of classified roads has sections that have not been passable for lack of intervention for about ten years, and work is in progress to improve the situation, so that the provincial capital is already circulating to the districts and administrative posts in the communities, without major constraints.

Work to control the state of access routes and the honesty of contractors is the responsibility of an inspection company and contracts have been signed for this purpose.

De Sousa took the opportunity to draw the attention of road users to avoid driving while it is raining, especially on the embankments, and it is important that the journey is interrupted in these situations and resumed safely.
