The Angolan government will prioritize improvements to access roads, electricity, water supply, and supporting infrastructure at the Km30 Market. According to the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, who visited the site on Sunday, ensuring national food security also involves making sure that the largest supply center in the capital — and beyond — operates in an organized and compliant manner.
José de Lima Massano stated that in the coming days, multisectoral teams will return to the site to ensure that halted services can be resumed and pending operations can move forward.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that if financial resources are insufficient — given that the 2025 State Budget (OGE) is already underway — projects that cannot be completed now should be prioritized for next year, to ensure that product sales and supply at Km30 Market take place in a more organized fashion.
The Minister of State explained that the inspection visit aimed to better understand the market’s dynamics. He emphasized that the plan involves addressing the most pressing issues, especially the widespread concerns about the market’s operations, which primarily require better organization.
He stressed the strategic importance of the Km30 Market as Luanda’s main supply center — and since Luanda is the country’s largest consumption hub, the market plays a major role in price stability within the national economy.
“We must address the essential aspects of public health. We need to provide water, electricity, and improve access. If we can ensure that this supply center — along with others that support commerce and service provision — is properly equipped, we will be taking a major step toward solving the serious issues that continue to affect us,” he said.
Logistics Center
The Minister also indicated that there are conditions for some of the services currently provided at the market to be offered through the Luanda Logistics and Distribution Center (CLOD).
“There we will certainly have better conditions to address issues related to food safety and quality, ensuring that what’s made available to the public meets the necessary standards,” he said.
He added that a timeline has already been established within the broader improvement plan for the market, with several actions to be implemented through the Luanda Logistics and Distribution Center (CLOD).
