Angola’s Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, conducted an on-site inspection on Wednesday of construction works at the Quilonga Grande Project in the municipality of Bom Jesus, Icolo e Bengo province — a major infrastructure undertaking designed to produce 518,000 cubic metres of water per day and supply approximately five million residents across the provinces of Luanda and Icolo e Bengo.
Borges was accompanied by a delegation that included the governors of Luanda, Luís Nunes, and Icolo e Bengo, Auzílio Jacob, as well as the Secretary of State for Water, António Belsa da Costa. The group assessed each construction sector individually, allowing officials to gauge the physical progress of the works on the ground, monitor compliance with the construction schedule across the project’s different lots, and examine the principal technical challenges remaining before completion.
Described as one of the government’s largest investments in the water sector, Quilonga Grande will operate through a distribution network spanning approximately 3,500 kilometres and comprising around 170,000 household connections, making it a critical project for reinforcing potable water supply to the Luanda metropolitan area and the surrounding Icolo e Bengo province.
