About 16 kilometers of access roads to agricultural fields in the province of Icolo e Bengo will benefit from improvement works this year to facilitate the transportation of products. This assurance was given to Jornal de Angola by the Vice-Governor for the Political, Social, and Economic Sector, Agostinho Pedro António, following a field visit conducted by the provincial governor, Auzílio Jacob, to the municipality of Bom Jesus.
According to Agostinho António, who did not specify the duration of the intervention, the work will begin tomorrow with technical studies to define the best rehabilitation solutions for the roads.
The road repairs aim to address difficulties in transporting agricultural products and reduce production losses, said Agostinho António, highlighting the importance of the works in connecting municipalities by road to the main product marketing centers.
The provincial vice-governor for the Political, Social, and Economic Sector of Icolo e Bengo expressed satisfaction with the agricultural production capacity in the municipality of Bom Jesus.
Producer’s Challenges
João Carlos, owner of the Hortapa Agro-Pastoral Farm, stated that the poor condition of the roads negatively impacts production, but he believes that with the road repairs it will be possible to increase production and stabilize product prices in the market.
In an interview with Jornal de Angola, the farmer, who planted 150 hectares of tomatoes this agricultural year, expects to harvest up to three crates daily, about 75 tons.
