Industrial production in Angola slowed in April this year. The Industrial Production Index (IPI) recorded a monthly variation of 4.54%, representing a decline of 10.11 percentage points in sector output. The manufacturing industry was the main driver of the index’s performance, while the electricity, gas and steam production and distribution sector made the smallest contribution.
According to the Industrial Production Index (IPI) Bulletin for April 2026, released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the manufacturing industry posted the strongest performance among industrial sectors during the month, recording growth of 14.81% compared with March. This result contributed positively to the IPI by 6.32 percentage points (pp).
The water collection, treatment, distribution and sanitation industry ranked second, with a variation of -0.52%, making only a marginal contribution to the overall performance of the sector. Meanwhile, the extractive industry and the electricity, gas and steam production and distribution sector recorded negative variations of 2.98% and 4.82%, respectively.
On a year-on-year basis, comparing April 2026 with April 2025, the Industrial Production Index increased by 55.35%, representing a rise of 50.85 percentage points compared with the same period a year earlier, when growth stood at 4.5%.
This annual increase was also driven primarily by the strong performance of the manufacturing industry, which recorded a 191.52% surge in production. The electricity, gas and steam production and distribution sector followed with growth of 56.21%. By contrast, the extractive industry recorded the weakest performance, with an increase of 6.88%.
In terms of IPI performance by category of goods, consumer goods recorded the highest monthly growth at 17%, an increase of 1.89 percentage points compared with March. Investment goods followed with growth of 16.22%, while intermediate goods rose by 0.63%. Energy products, however, recorded a negative variation of 3.45%, according to the INE bulletin.
