The total volume of catches in 2022 and 2023 reached 1.1 million tons, with the highest production recorded in 2023, totaling 601,778 tons, according to Angola’s National Statistics Institute (INE) in its most recent Fisheries Statistical Yearbook 2023.
According to the report:
- In 2023, industrial fishing accounted for the largest share, with 267,774 tons (45.2%),
- Followed by artisanal marine fishing, with 432,374 tons (37.3%),
- Semi-industrial fishing, with 143,988 tons (12.4%),
- And inland artisanal fishing, with 45,737 tons (3.9%).
National aquaculture production in 2022 and 2023 totaled 13,147 tons, with the Uíge province leading production at 7,649 tons, representing 60.3% of the total.
The report also highlights that in 2022 and 2023:
- 9,096 and 2,492 fishermen, respectively, were recorded in the industrial and semi-industrial fishing sub-sectors.
- 253 and 249 vessels were licensed, respectively, to operate in the industrial and semi-industrial fishing sub-sectors.
Regarding salt production (saliculture), a total of 402,342 tons were produced over the two years, with 220,932 tons produced in 2022, accounting for 54.9% of the total.
Benguela province recorded the highest salt production, with 362,669 tons, representing 90.1% of the total during the reference period, according to the report consulted by Economia & Mercado magazine.
