Unitel Wins Grand Prize at Benguela International Fair 2026

Unitel store or network infrastructure in Angola — Angola's leading mobile operator restored services after a late-July

Angola’s leading mobile and internet operator Unitel claimed the Grand Prize at the 2026 Benguela International Fair (FIB), the prize-giving gala held on Saturday confirmed.

The awards ceremony also recognised Africell as best participant in information and communication technologies, Carrinho in the food and beverages category, and CCL Lda in civil construction.

A further cohort of companies received awards across various categories, including BFA, Standard Bank, Pluribus Angola, Fidelidade, Aqcua, AGL-Terminal Lobito, Trading Constrói, Automatriz, Setic and Fundipeças.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the gala, Unitel’s representative Rui Vaz said the award reflected the innovation the company has been rolling out in recent years.

Vaz highlighted 5G technology as a key driver, noting that although the next-generation network is already live in Angola’s domestic market, Unitel brought it to the FIB specifically to showcase business opportunities for small, medium and large enterprises.

He added that over its 25 years of operation Unitel has consistently demonstrated quality of service, and pledged the company would continue to work to serve its customers.

Arena Group commercial director Manuel Novais described the FIB as a space where companies, institutions, investors, entrepreneurs and citizens come together to show what they do and look to the future with greater confidence.

Novais acknowledged that organising an event of this scale demands considerable dedication, professionalism, teamwork and many hours of work.

“Every company represented here brought with it a story, a project, an innovation, a vision and an ambition,” he said.

He also extended thanks to the Benguela Provincial Government, municipal administrations and suppliers whose support allowed the initiative to be carried out with greater impact.

Awards were also presented in the transport and logistics, information and communication technologies, agriculture and fisheries, and machinery and equipment categories, among others.

The 15th edition of the Benguela International Fair has drawn more than 400 national and foreign companies, as well as public and private institutions.

This edition was held outside its traditional May slot — when Benguela’s city anniversary festivities normally take place — after the Cavaco River burst its banks on 12 April, causing widespread destruction, significant losses to businesses and individuals, displacing hundreds of families and claiming dozens of lives.
