The shareholders of the Jumbo hypermarket have announced the temporary closure of the oldest continuously operating supermarket in Angola.
According to a statement cited by RNA, the closure is temporary and aims to allow for a restructuring process.
During this period, dozens of employees will be dismissed through contractual termination.
The decision, taken by the Executive Committee of Numbo – Sociedade Angolana de Distribuição SA, which owns the commercial establishment founded on August 31, 1973, follows a series of structural and cyclical factors that have compromised the viability of operations.
Regarding the termination process, the committee assured that it will be conducted in full compliance with Angola’s General Labour Law (LGT) and the legal framework for collective dismissals.
The statement also emphasizes that the decision aims to create the necessary conditions for the brand’s restructuring and modernization, with a view to its future reopening in a new format—more competitive, efficient, and better aligned with the demands of the Angolan market.
