Angolan fuel distributor Pumangol posted growth across nearly all business segments in the second quarter of 2026, with retail turnover rising 18% year-on-year and aviation fuel revenue surging 143% quarter-on-quarter, the company disclosed in a presentation to the Instituto Regulador dos Derivados do Petróleo (IRDP) — Angola’s petroleum derivatives regulator — on Wednesday.
The briefing, attended by sector officials, competition authorities and media, covered Pumangol’s operational and financial performance for the April-to-June period. The company framed the disclosure as part of its commitment to transparency and accountability to the domestic market.
Direct fuel sales to end consumers reached 161,828 metric tonnes (MT) in the second quarter. The product mix remained broadly balanced: petrol accounted for 81,624 MT, equivalent to 50.4% of total volumes, while diesel stood at 80,204 MT, representing 49.6% of sales.
Retail segment turnover reached 71.2 billion kwanzas in the second quarter. On a first-half cumulative basis, revenue totalled 142.8 billion kwanzas, up 18% against the same period of 2025, which Pumangol described as evidence of the resilience and consistency of its commercial operations.
In the business-to-business bulk fuels segment, Pumangol sold 53,769 MT during the quarter, generating turnover of 24 billion kwanzas. The company said the segment maintained its commercial momentum despite a challenging operational environment.
Performance in the bulk segment was weighed down by a reduction in diesel availability that set in from late May onwards, compounded by tighter supply of petrol and kerosene — factors that constrained total volumes over the period.
Pumangol’s lubricants distribution and marketing arm, trading under the MaxLub brand, continued on a positive trajectory in the second quarter, further consolidating its position in the domestic market. The segment sold 1,208 MT of lubricants in the quarter, up 13% on the first quarter of 2026 and 30% higher than in the second quarter of 2025. On a first-half basis, volumes were 21% ahead of the same period last year.
MaxLub segment turnover reached 3 billion kwanzas, representing growth of 24% against the previous quarter and 42% compared with the year-earlier period. Pumangol attributed the performance to the gradual restocking of product during the quarter and sustained strong market acceptance of the MaxLub brand, which it said reinforced its overall presence in the lubricants market.
The aviation segment delivered the most striking growth of all business lines, extending the momentum established in the first quarter. Jet A-1 fuel sales totalled 10,917 MT in the second quarter, a year-on-year increase of 56.6%. Cumulative first-half volumes reached 22,600 MT, up 37.8% on the same period of 2025.
Aviation segment turnover came in at 2.8 billion kwanzas, representing a quarter-on-quarter increase of 143.1% and a year-on-year gain of 57%. Among the standout performances, sales at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda grew 27% over the period.
Beyond its commercial results, Pumangol highlighted its social responsibility activities during the quarter, which spanned education, health, humanitarian aid and community development, benefiting hundreds of families across several provinces.
Among the key initiatives were support for the Ciência Sobre Rodas — Science on Wheels — programme in Huambo and Bié provinces; the organisation of a stomatology fair in Cabinda province, which delivered more than 2,200 consultations and 270 surgical procedures; the Cacimbo Solidário campaign, which assisted more than 150 families and 400 children; and the SOS Benguela campaign, mounted in response to flooding that struck Benguela province.
The quarter also brought external recognition for Pumangol’s sustainability strategy, with the company receiving the Forbes Corporate Social Responsibility Award. The accolade underscored its stated commitment to shared value creation and sustainable community development in the areas where it operates.
The Forbes award came just days after Pumangol announced at the FILDA 2026 trade fair the expansion of its COFO business model in partnership with Banco Millennium Atlântico and Access Bank Angola, signalling continued efforts to broaden its commercial and financial service footprint.
