The company Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM) defends greater relief from the restrictions imposed on the sector in light of Decree 24/2021 of April 26, with the aim of rescuing the alcoholic beverage sector.
According to the company, since the Covid-19 pandemic began last year, more than 23,000 jobs have been lost in the alcoholic beverage value chain.
In a press release, CDM believes that “for the protection of the economy, it is important that the current operating hours of bottle stores and liquor retail warehouses (from 9 .00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. currently) be reconsidered as a matter of urgency.”
“We believe that, during this period, both public servants and workers in the sector are still at work, many of them not available to purchase drinks of their liking before the time they leave the service. Thus, allowing bottle stores and liquor stores to be open until 6 p.m. would be great news for the economy, besides being an effective implementation of the constitutional principle of equal opportunity among citizens,” he says.
The company adds in the statement “that it should be kept in mind, also with regard to the opening hours of bottle stores and beverage resale warehouses, that their operation during working hours for those who, with their labor, build the country would be consistent with the ‘stay at home’ command.
“It is important to emphasize that the current schedule, from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, may inadvertently be sponsoring the illicit production and commercialization of beverages,” he stresses.
