The private sector in Mozambique lost about 148 million dollars due to the attacks that took place in March in the town of Palma, in Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country, said the President of the Confederation of Business Associations.
In Mozambique, the private sector is walking around with calculator in hand and has already managed to quantify the financial losses caused since the beginning of the attacks on the headquarters town of Palma that began on March 24.
“According to the assessment made, the total volume of losses recorded for the business sector is about 148 million dollars. Some uncertainties remain due to the worsening security in the northern province of Cabo Delgado,” Agostinho Vuma, president of the Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique, told RFI.
And so, at a time when business robustness has also declined from 40% to 28% due to combined factors such as natural calamities, armed violence and covid-19, the CTA president is calling for Central Bank intervention to ensure the recovery of the national currency.
