Angola's national carrier TAAG – Linhas Aéreas de Angola has inaugurated a dedicated cargo route to Lusaka, the Zambian capital, as part of a broader strategy to expand its footprint in the African air freight market.
The inaugural service operated as flight DT7587, flown by a Boeing 737-800 Freighter, and carried 12.8 tonnes of cargo originating from Amsterdam. The shipment included machine parts, computer equipment, personal-use goods and other high-value merchandise.
In a press release issued on Friday, TAAG said initial demand confirmed the route's potential, with loads of 14 and 16 tonnes already booked for subsequent operations.
In its first phase, the route will run at weekly frequency and will be operated in partnership with NAC2000, which is responsible for ramp and cargo handling services as well as acting as TAAG's General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) in Zambia.
With the addition of Lusaka, TAAG now offers dedicated cargo services to Lagos (Nigeria), Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), Accra (Ghana), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), Nairobi (Kenya), Johannesburg (South Africa) and Lusaka (Zambia), strengthening logistical connectivity across key African markets.
The airline said the new route forms part of the North-South logistics corridor and creates a fresh gateway for goods arriving from Europe, China and Brazil, broadening distribution options into the African market.
TAAG added that the service also supports the objectives of the Airlift Zambia initiative by improving conditions for the export of products such as beef, poultry, vegetables and other goods, facilitating access to the Angolan market and the carrier's international network, while stimulating new trade opportunities between Angola and Zambia.
For the fourth quarter of 2026, TAAG's cargo business unit plans to further extend its network with the opening of a new route to Libreville, Gabon.
The airline said its expanding cargo network reaffirms its commitment to developing competitive logistics solutions, promoting regional economic integration and strengthening supply chains that connect Angola to major African and international markets.
