TAAG Carries 966,500 Passengers in Nine Months, Led by Intercontinental Growth

Angola's national carrier TAAG – Linhas Aéreas de Angola transported 966,500 passengers between January and September 2026, a 5.6% increase on the same period of 2025, according to data released by the airline.

In a press release issued on Friday, TAAG attributed the performance primarily to strong growth in its intercontinental and regional operations, which expanded by 21.4% and 16.8%, respectively, over the nine-month period.

On intercontinental routes, the airline carried 339,300 passengers, with services to Lisbon in Portugal and São Paulo in Brazil recording the highest traffic volumes during the period under review.

On its regional network, TAAG transported 272,200 passengers, with routes to Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa among the busiest connections.

The domestic segment moved in the opposite direction, posting an 11.9% decline to 354,900 passengers. That contraction tracked a 13.2% reduction in available seat capacity deployed on routes within Angola.

Despite the pullback in domestic operations, TAAG's total network capacity — measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs) — grew 11.3% over the nine-month period, reflecting the airline's strategic reorientation towards longer-haul flying.

The data also show a rise in connecting passenger traffic through Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Icolo e Bengo Province, which reached 15.9% of total traffic handled at the hub.

TAAG said the overall passenger growth stems primarily from the expansion of its regional and intercontinental connectivity, while the recovery of domestic operations remains one of the airline's key challenges.
