The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has confirmed Luanda as the host city for the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2027), with Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar delivering the announcement during an audience with President João Lourenço.
Hosting the GISS 2027 will give Angola a platform to showcase to the international aeronautical community the advances it has made in the sector, the capabilities it has developed, and the broader potential linked to the modernisation of its civil aviation industry.
During the meeting, Salazar also reiterated ICAO’s support for Angola’s strategy to establish itself as an aviation hub on the west coast of Africa.
Salazar, who was accompanied at the audience by Transport Minister Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, highlighted the progress Angola has recorded across various areas of civil aviation, underscoring the role of presidential leadership and ministerial direction in driving the sector’s development. The GISS 2027 confirmation came on the closing day of the 3rd Global Summit on Gender in Aviation, held in Luanda from 21 to 23 July, which brought together representatives of states, civil aviation authorities, operators, international organisations and sector specialists.
The hosting of both events in Angola deepens cooperation between the country and ICAO and reinforces Luanda’s positioning as a centre of dialogue and decision-making on the future of civil aviation in Africa.
