Angola's National Institute for Support to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (INAPEM) and the Order of Economists of Angola (OEA) signed a cooperation protocol in Luanda on Friday aimed at providing specialist guidance to the country's small business sector.

The memorandum, valid for four years and renewable, falls under the 'Organiza' project, which seeks to improve accounting and management compliance among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

INAPEM's Board Chairman, Bráulio Augusto, told reporters that the partnership is designed to establish an SME observatory — a dedicated platform for knowledge-sharing and the formulation of public policies that will contribute to improving Angola's business environment.

Augusto added that the cooperation agreement also covers the development of research into the Angolan business ecosystem, with the aim of enabling public investors and private partners to channel support to business initiatives with greater predictability and efficiency.

He argued that strengthening the national business fabric requires raising competency levels to improve the performance of entrepreneurs across all segments.

OEA President Wilson Neves said the studies to be produced under the agreement will serve as the basis for building a robust analytical framework covering micro, small and medium enterprises operating in Angola.

Neves advocated for the development of a business fabric composed predominantly of micro, small and medium-sized companies, underscoring their central role in generating new employment opportunities across the economy.

INAPEM currently oversees more than 50,000 micro, small and medium enterprises, with the majority concentrated in Luanda. The Order of Economists, meanwhile, has 1,416 active members and is currently evaluating a further 413 membership candidates.
