Zaire Produces Over 41,000 Tons of Agricultural Products

Forty-one thousand seven hundred and twenty-eight tons of agricultural products were produced during the second season of the 2024-2025 agricultural campaign in the province of Zaire, representing a decrease of 61,684 tons compared to the previous harvest.

In statements this Thursday to ANGOP, the head of the Zaire Department of the Institute for Agrarian Development (IDA), Nlandu Luandele, explained that during the period under review, 40,177 tons of cassava, 690 tons of sweet potato, 500 tons of peanuts, 232 tons of yam, 76 tons of maize, and 49 tons of Macunde beans were harvested.

He said that the municipality of Mbanza Kongo produced 9,390 tons of cassava, 2,882 tons of jinguba (peanuts), and 714 tons of maize, while the Cuimba district harvested 2,265 tons of cassava, 1,616 tons of peanuts, and 400 tons of maize during the same agricultural season.

He added that 40,451 farming families were involved in these activities, of which 7,763 households benefited from technical assistance at field schools.

According to the source, four to five IDA technicians assigned to some municipalities in the province provide technical support to farmers, aiming to improve cultivation techniques and increase agricultural production levels.

Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 agricultural season, which begins this September, the IDA, in partnership with the Family Farming Support and Marketing Project (SAMAP), plans to provide technical assistance to 70,232 farming families in areas related to mechanization, training, and distribution of agricultural inputs.

The province of Zaire has significant agricultural potential, with cassava, maize, citrus fruits, bananas, peanuts, pineapples, beans, sweet potatoes, sesame, and yam being the most widely produced crops.
