Namibe province landed 55,882 tonnes of fish during the first half of 2026, with horse mackerel accounting for the largest share of the catch at 19,191 tonnes, the provincial Fisheries and Sea Office announced.
Horse mackerel was followed by Atlantic chub mackerel at 10,625 tonnes and red porgy at 7,498 tonnes, according to the office.
Despite the volume recorded this year, the catch represents a decline compared with the same period of 2025, when total landings reached 78,689 tonnes.
Artisanal fishing remains the backbone of the province’s fishing output, according to the Namibe provincial Fisheries and Sea Office report, accounting for 38,626 tonnes — equivalent to 69% of all fish landed in the province during the period.
