Angolan agribusiness company Jardins da Yoba will inaugurate its first seed processing and conditioning plant on Wednesday in the Mapunda neighbourhood on the outskirts of Lubango, reinforcing agricultural production capacity in Huíla Province.
The facility cost 4.569 billion kwanzas — equivalent to approximately five million US dollars — and comprises three processing lines, one of which was rehabilitated in 2018 and another installed recently, equipped with advanced technology and a quality-control laboratory.
According to company Director-General João Saraiva, the plant, which will be formally opened by the Minister of Economic Coordination, has a capacity to process 160 tonnes of seeds per day over an eight-hour shift — a significant increase from the previous capacity of 20 tonnes per day.
Saraiva said the investment was made possible through financing secured under one of the government’s national production incentive programmes.
“The first plant began operations in 2018 with a reconditioned line. Under BNA Notice 10, we obtained financing to build a brand-new processing and conditioning line from scratch, as well as a new seed treatment and bagging line, in 2024. The biggest challenge was researching next-generation industrial seed formulations — a process that took more than a year before we were able to comply with all Industrial Seed Treatment (IST) protocols in line with the most advanced international standards,” Saraiva said.
