First Phase of Sustenta Satisfactory

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER) considers the first phase of Sustenta, a national program to integrate family farmers into productive value chains, to have been satisfactory.

This finding results from a process of supervision, monitoring and impact assessment of the program’s progress that the institution is carrying out in the provinces of Niassa, Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambézia, Sofala, Tete, Manica and Gaza.

It is worth mentioning that in the scope of Sustenta, the Government has structured adequate financial solutions for the development of the agrarian sector, covering about 200 thousand families and 3750 semi-commercial producers.

The objective of the structuring is to facilitate the access to credit to the sector and consequently raise the national indicator of financing to agriculture from 0.6 to about 11%.

According to a statement from MADER, members of the Advisory Council and technicians from the institution are also already in the mentioned provinces, accompanied by representatives of local bodies, to assess the stage of production under the 2021 Agricultural Campaign.

It should be noted that the government projects for this campaign, a growth in the national agricultural sector of about 8%, the highest in the last decade.
