Six of the 40 large-scale farms registered by Angola’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forests have received government licences authorising them to conduct hunting and wildlife ranching operations, in a move aimed at formalising and regulating the country’s hunting sector.
The certificates were handed over on Tuesday in the Gambos municipality of Huíla province by the Secretary of State for Forests, João Bartolomeu da Cunha, and the Governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the organisation and oversight of the hunting industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bartolomeu da Cunha explained that the licences authorise the companies to operate, provided they strictly comply with hunting regulations and all other applicable rules. He emphasised that adherence to the legal framework is a condition of continued authorisation.
The secretary of state said the licensing process is designed to promote the sustainable exploitation of wildlife resources, ensure the preservation of biodiversity, and encourage responsible and environmentally balanced hunting practices.
He added that the government will continue to monitor the performance of licensed companies to ensure compliance with wildlife conservation rules and the broader objective of maximising the value of the country’s natural resources.
According to Bartolomeu da Cunha, the registration and licensing process is an important instrument for combating poaching, reinforcing control over hunting activity, and creating conditions for the sector to contribute to economic development and job creation.
He urged industry operators to conduct their activities in full respect of existing legislation, warning that non-compliance with the established rules could result in administrative and legal sanctions.
The issuance of the certificates falls within the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests’ policies for promoting the sustainable management of wildlife, reconciling ecosystem conservation with the rational use of the country’s natural resources.
